This morning I was really depressed. All the events of my personal life plus the griefs of the world seemed to pile up on top of me and I felt overwhelmed. I kept trying to put the sadness behind me, and change my thought process but I could not. I kept struggling with negativity, anger, resentment, despair, frustration. I attempted to find a solution to change my state of mind. The solution I found was music. I listened to Sami Yusuf and found myself able to cheer up and find peace in the midst of my upset. Praising God as a source of strength and hope is found all over the Psalms and the Bible as a whole.
Psalm 59:16 New King James Version (NKJV)
Psalm 59:16 New King James Version (NKJV)
But I will sing of Your power;
Yes, I will sing aloud of Your mercy in the morning;
For You have been my defense
And refuge in the day of my trouble.
Yes, I will sing aloud of Your mercy in the morning;
For You have been my defense
And refuge in the day of my trouble.
Some of the music was salawaat on the prophet and this also has a huge wealth of sources that say this is a good way to deal with sadness or any trouble.
Singing praise to God is an excellent way to deal with depression and sadness, and it definitely lifted my spirits this morning. Now to maintain it through out the day....
